I see asian people

It's morning ...

B - ''Hey Sebastian .. today is Wednesday right?''
S - '' Yeah .. i think so ...''
B - ''Yeah.. it has to be wednesday''
S - ''Let me look''    ...........     no, it's Friday''

We lost track of time.. big time
We can't really tell if we were for a long or for a short time on the way.
We just know we're ON time... so, today at midnight it's time to go into Kasachstan.

View from the balcony

We planed to wake up at 7 o clock in the morning... wash up and leave really fast to the street to  Astrachan.
Let's just say the plan was an italian one... we were on the street at six in the evening.
But it was a great day. We found our way out of Volgograd pretty hard. Big city, nobody speaks a word english. We saw an awesome statue from the bus. check it out

We started to see the first asians... so we think it's a good sign that we didn't take the wrong roads to where we want to go.

              The street to Astrakhan...
Long way.. we have about 400 km ahead of us. desert everywhere

When hitch-hiking it is absolutely important to keep a good mood. Time passes by faster and more people may want to take you if you don't look like a bored horse.

It was the bigest sun i've ever seen

A guy with a truck finally stopped. It's really cool to drive in a truck. It's slower but it has a greater view.
The truck driver did not speak a word english. But he was really eager to talk to us. Really cool guy.
He didn't take us far on the road but when he let us out he parked his truck and invited us to a cofee and something to eat. Because of him we came to Astrachan. He took us to the bus station and told us that there is a bus that comes at ten o'clock that will take us where we want to go. Just  what we needed!
Before Russia we said ''No more hitch-hiking after Ukraine... it is dangerous!'' ...
after Russia we came to the conclusion that people that want to help... good-hearted people exist everywhere.

His name is Murat. We wish you and your kid much luck. Thank you for all the help!

We took the bus to Astrakhan. we paid 12 Euros for the ticket. It was a big fancy bus with tv and so on.
On the tv, there was a movie about russian soldiers in the world war.
At five we were in Astrachan. It's very close to the Caspian Sea. You can smell the sea air.
We're tired as hell ...
Half europeans, half asians here...

Check out what we found

a serious Bank

Tonight we'll be at the Border with Kasachstand and hopefully tomorow on the train to Almaty. We didn't have that much luck with trains until now. We're going to need all the luck we have to catch this one.
After that, the rest is history. If we don't get the train.. we're going to have to ride a camel along the Silk Road to China.

We wish you a great day!

Tag 4 - Bahnhof, Katze und Steppe

Lugansk - Tag 3 at 11 o'clock in the night...

What kind of fucking Vehicle drives 400 Km in 10 Hours?

We find no more buses to Volgograd... no problem
Let's eat a Shaorma.

In front of the autobusstation there was a stand with spinning meat at the grill ... Döner Laden ... Shaorma shop.. whatever everybody likes to call it.
With no bus to drive to our next milestone ... and no place to sleep overnight... we decided that the shaorma shop was the next best decision.
We met some guys from India and Sri Lanka and talked to them for a while. They were studying medicine and bwl in Ukraine. Cool guys. They reminded me of friends from Qingdao. We listened to classical indian bollywood songs while eating shaorma. They fit together somehow :))
Indians man ... they can dance man

After they left ... three Ukrainians joined our Shaorma table. After a few drinks, one of them could speak english... but just didn't want to accept that i don't speak russian. Bleeadg ... Shishkjee... Da... Piva... were enough words in russian to start a conversation with them. The guy insisted that i call his wife (at 3 in the morning) and talk to her on romanian.

We waited inside the Autobus station the whole night.. together with other old guys that were talking and farting in their sleep. A little cat came and started to play around.

There was no bus to Volgograd .... ok then.. let's go to the train station
There was no train to Volgograd.... ok then...... shit

Outside the train station we were trying to figure it out how to reach Volgograd.
We decided to hich-hike to the Border with Russia.

................. and then two minutes later, we found a Bus that was 3 metres away from us... that was driving to the Border too. It was exactly what we needed. The Ticket costed 1,3 Euros for a 2 hours drive to the Border.
This trip just gets better and better man...

Border with Russia

All that stuff that we learned in geography in school... this was it man... all the vegetation was changing to Steppe... the Climate changed too from hot weather to cook-your-water-without fire-weather.
The people from the border were really cool and nice to us.

''Wjellcome too Rushia'' ... said the sexy russian girl behind the counter.

Hitch-hiking through the Steppe in the hot sun is ... an experience.

We got to Volgograd faster than any train or bus.
This is Alec ... Alec took us to Volgograd

Now we're in a Hotel next to Volga river... it's a bit dirty but it's okay. it has an awesome view from the balcony.
we took a shower and we get a good night sleep finally.

=))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Tomorow - we hitch-hike to the border of Kasachstan

Life is great

Tag 3 - Dnjepopetrovsk and the Law

From L'viv to Dnjepopetrovsk

It war really smooth. We had music in the speakers.. we had the book in the hand .. we looked out the window a bit ... we slept a bit. The beds in the train were really confortable. We arrived the next day at 12 o'clock.
A friend of Sebastian's friend ... so, i guess our friend... picked us up at the station.
Really cool guy... big soccer supporter.
His name is Eugene (Zhenya)

Eugene speaks really good english too. With his help we bought the tickets to Lugansk.
Then we went to a Ukrainian restaurant and ate Borsch and some cool desert that look exactly like Jiaozi .. but filled with cherry. Awesome awesome...

In 20 minutes our bus leaves to Lugansk... after that, let's see how we get further to Russia.
Everything goes better than planned.

Photos and updates later... we really gotta go
Cheers

14:45 Autobus-station

Well... everything almost didn't work better than planned.

At the Bus Station i had to be important and smoked  ...
The big no-smoking sign behind me called the nice ukrainian police officer. The nice ukrainian police officer was an expert in showing no possible emotion known to man. He told me to put out the cigarette and to show him my passport. Here you go nice police guy. You are THE LAW!
The universal soldier of the law insisted that i need an immigration permit to enter his country.
He still did not show any emotion.
Sebastian knows the policy of ukraine and told the LAW that european citizens did not need a visa for ukraine anymore...
Mr. police looked at Sebastian untouched by his completely irellevant argument and said:
      ''give me your passport too...''

Meanwhile all the passagers in the bus were waiting for us

Eugene was an intermediary between the police man and the two imigration paperless friends. He knew how to dissarm the situation. At the end the LAW gave us the passports back with the smallest expression of sadness on his face and then he spontaneously exploded.

Good bye Dnjepopetrovsk, good bye Mr. Law, goodbye Anna (even if she wasn't there), goodbye Eugene
Thanks for the Help                Good luck

Tag 1- we have bigger feet than we think - Part II

Munich > Rosenheim > Chiemsee > Salzburg > Bratislava > Martin > Ukraine border > Ushgorod > L'viv

Two really cool dudes took us with them from Bratislava. One of them was speaking a little german. he was funny as hell...
"und wohii gehst ihr"
- "we're going to china"
- "CHINA? OH GOOOOT"
The little guy was always talking about girls ... the other one didn't speak at all.

They left us at a gas station in the middle of nowhere.. in a city named Martin in Slowakia. It was eleven o clock in the night. Sebastian and I thought we will never get out of there. We put on some music... by the way... if you ever go on a trip like this, buy some speakers for your Ipod... it's really awesome to listen to music while you hitchhike. Time flies faster. yeah...

so we were in the middle of the night at a man-forgotten horror gas station when all of a sudden some guy stops the car in front of us. The weird part was .. that he came from the other direction.. he wasn't going in the direction we were.
"where are you going?"
- "We want to go to Poprad"
- "you're going to Ukraine aren't you?"
- "yes"
- Well come in then.. i'll take you guys there"
I have to admit it was pretty suspicious at the beginning. Too much kindness without reason usually means something bad. We took a break in the middle of nowhere and stopped at a house in the woods.
I was thinking ... "oh fuck! this is it... he'll cut you into pieces and feed you to his monster pet" ...
We ate something like Kaesespaetzle. It was typical Slowakian. it tasted awesome.

The guy that took us with him was a pretty smart person. he had university and could speak english very good. He talked with us about a lot of things.
He took us a very long way... and fast....... really really fast.
I'm not used to people being this nice and helpful. But he showed us that they exist.
His name was a bit hard to remember ... Rano .. Raino ... Reno. we called him Ronaldo afterwards.
Ronaldo ... big thanks to you man. Look for us when you come to China... We wish you all the best!

Ukraine border

We had to jump in a car to cross the border. They took our passports. every passport was ok.. except mine.
The police woman looked at me and said: "One time?"       .... i didn't know what the hell that means but i said yes.
So she told me to get out of the car and wait in that space between Slowakia and Ukraine (it's called no-man's land). It took a while. that moment i was thinking "the're gonna send me back... they're gonna reject my passport" The woman came after 20 minutes with a smile on her face. She said romanian passports require a deeper checking ... especially if you look like a Guantanamo prisoner in your passport.

5 o'clock in the morning... we're walking on the streets of Ukraine. Tired but pretty excited that we came this far.
Ukraine reminds me of Romania a bit.

We took a bus to L'viv and here we are today. The bus took us 200-300 Kilometers ........ in 7 hours :)))))
We saw a lot of ukraine's countryside. Beautiful. We went through the mountains. Villages .. farms.. cows.. nice old people whe are eager to talk to you even if you don't understand them.
We arrived after 7 hours in L'viv and went straight to the train station. There wasn't any train to Dnepopetrvsk. We went back to the Autobus station ..they call it AutoVoxal ... and tried to see if they had any bus that went to east Ukraine that day. No luck.
We went to the train station again. The bus number 18 took us there. it was a long way.. the bus was full of people. Outside was hot and the windows were closed and stuck. We met an ukrainian guy in the bus that lives in munich. He was 16-17 years old..i think he wanted to be a gangster.

Those buses man... if you ever go to Ukraine riding a bus is a real experience. They look like cardboard boxes on wheels.

People pay 20 cents to ride the bus as long as they wish. They have to pay the ticket at the bus driver. The ones who are in the back and can't reach the bus driver.. they pass the money from hand to hand. They get change back .. also from hand to hand. I've never seen anything like it.

We bought the ticket to Dnepopetrovsk for the next day at half past 5 PM.

Then we went to a hostel. I don't know if you know those cars named LADA. They're old sovjet cars.. really old. we took one taxi (a Lada) and he took us to a Hostel. He was driving like in the rally. we were expecting that every moment, the poor car would just break in a thousand parts on the road.
The hostel was a nice confortable place. they usually are. if you ever go on a trip.. never go to a hotel. book a hostel. it's much more interesting.
After 30 hours of activity.. we smelled like real men :))
Thank you Hostel for the shower.

We went out for a bit in L'viv in the evening.
I have never seen so many pretty girls in one place in my life. The night life here must be awesome.

Next stop - Dnepopetrovsk (east Ukraine) tomorow at 11:35. We're going to meet a friend of Sebastian there.

Cheers

Bobby

Tag 1- we have bigger feet than we think - Part I

9 o'clock Sebastian calls:
"Bogdan! wake up! I've got something here. the postman gave me two things that look like passports with 3 Visas on them"
-"Bombe mann! we meet at the train station at half past 10.. in the middle. (actually it was half past 11 but i understood wrong... so i waited like a honk for one hour")

____________________
11:33 Sebastian arrives "did you wait long?"
- "nah! i just came here too"

We are leaving with the S-bahn to Sauerlach. it was my lucky day .. so i didn't have to buy a ticket.. because i'll be lucky and no one's going to check me.
From Sauerlach we go by foot for a while and we talk about Gott und die Welt ... god and the world ...

We arrive at the autobahn. Usually in Germany you have to wait a lot until somebody picks you up...
The second car stopped in the middle of the road and said "get in".
It was a cool dude from Berlin. He moved to Bavaria 10 years ago ... and ten years later.. he picked us up with his car. He took us until Rosenheim.

The luck followed us the whole day. From Rosenheim, another guy took us to Chiemsee.
Not a long way but it was interesting. The guy is in the Bundeswehr and was in Afganistan for some time. He told us some cool stories about how some of his teammates blew up and about how everyone in afganistan has the latest cellphone even though they still look like they live in the middle ages (his words)
Right... the first two times Sebastian hitchhiked.. the third time i did. we waited for a half hour.
A really nice girl from austria picked us up with her truck. She took us until Salzburg.

She let us out at a gas station... and we had a goddamn lot of luck this time. we saw a couple from Slowakia with their car. They happily took us until Bratislava...

Border to Slowakia

Sebastian made three plans one day before.
  • The first one: worst case scenario - we don't get further than Salzburg
  • The second one: Normal scenario - we arrive short to Wiena
  • The third: Best case scenario - We arrive until Bratislava in the first day

Sorry to dissapoint all of you .. but none of the scenarios happened.

We arrived until Ukraine in the first day

Also nochmal telefonieren.

II.

Eine coole Holzhütte mit Borat am Schalter ''I liike yuu, I like sex... it's niiice'' Ha ha.

Vis-à-Vis(a)

.
.
.
''Wjir habeen Ijhnen die Einlladuung pjer Jemail gjerade gjeschickt.. 'tschuldigung fjur die Verspjetung!''
'' Alles klar, vielen Dank Herr Juri (leck mich doch du Fauler... )''

An: Sebastian

Confucius say: Man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day.
Ha ha.

naja, ein bisschen contenance schadet nie. Basti, du und Konfuzius habt recht.

Freitag ist es dann

FREITAG:
Der Schalter-Ivan gibt mir das Visum. Der sagte ,,Alles klar!'' ...
